Inter-University Transportation Studies Forum

The Inter-University Transportation Studies Forum of Indonesia (FSTPT) is a scientific forum aimed at promoting increased interaction and communication among students, lecturers, and researchers from universities/institutions across Indonesia who are involved in education/teaching, research, and community service activities in the transportation sector. FSTPT is realized through: (1) a mid-year national transportation seminar, and (2) an end-of-year national transportation symposium, serving as a platform for exchanging research findings, scientific studies, and experiences to enhance the Tridharma of Higher Education in support of national transportation research and innovation programs. Since its establishment in 1998, the end-of-year national symposium has featured nearly 6,000 presentations by students and lecturers in the field of transportation sciences.

Objectives

  • To promote interaction and communication among students, lecturers, and researchers from universities/institutes across Indonesia involved in education, research, and community service activities in the field of transportation.
  • To serve as a platform for sharing information, exchanging experiences, and aligning policies in Tridharma activities through scientific meetings.

Main Activities

  • Organizing seminars and national symposia on scientific works in the field of transportation to enhance the quality and uniformity of scientific standards across transportation universities in Indonesia.
  • Holding two member meetings annually: the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is held in conjunction with the FSTPT Symposium, and the Mid-Year Meeting (MYM), which is part of the routine mid-year seminar activities.

FSTPT XXVIII - RAILWAYS AS THE BACKBONE OF INDONESIA'S FUTURE TRANSPORT

Indonesia, an archipelagic nation with rapidly growing urban centers and evolving mobility needs, stands at a critical juncture in transforming its national transport strategy. This session explores the pivotal role of railways in shaping a resilient, efficient, and sustainable transportation network for Indonesia’s future. As the country invests heavily in major rail projects—including the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail, Greater Jakarta LRT, and Trans-Sumatra and Trans-Kalimantan rail initiatives—railways are positioned not only as a key long-distance mode of transport but also as a central spine supporting multimodal integration. The discussion will highlight how railways can synergize with other transport modes, such as bus rapid transit (BRT), seaports, airports, and urban mobility solutions, to create a seamless, multimodal transportation ecosystem. Topics will include freight and passenger connectivity, urban-rural integration, emissions reduction, and the role of public-private partnerships in infrastructure development. Experts from government, industry, and academia will share insights into how Indonesia can leverage railway development to enhance economic growth, regional equity, and environmental sustainability, while supporting a more integrated, people-centered transport future. A discussion media is needed in the development of soft skills and hard skills, both lecturers, students, and practitioners at various universities or institutions in Indonesia and policy makers. Therefore, the Inter-University Transportation Study Forum (FSTPT) held a series of activities in the form of a National Transportation Symposium, Annual Member Meeting and Workshop.

The 28th National Transportation Symposium, Annual Member Meeting, and FSTPT Workshop will be held on August 29 and 30, 2025 at the Indonesian Railway Polytechnic Madiun (PPIM) Campus located in Madiun City, East Java.
